World Day on the Mall is Going Green!
Find out how we’re making World Day more sustainable … and what you can do to help!
What we’ve done:
- World Day on the Mall is adjacent to a major bus stop; people from all over can use public transportation to attend.
- Holding our event downtown during the day also means that many of our attendees choose to walk to the event, from other downtown locations, further reducing the use of cars for transport.
- We reduced our use of paper by using electronic communication whenever possible, including online registration for our vendors. When we do use paper, we recycle all of our waste paper.
- We are instituting recycling receptacles at this year’s event through the City of Lincoln’s Recycling Office. Volunteers will visit vendors throughout the day to collect their recycling (used cardboard boxes, plastic containers, etc.) and add those materials to our recycling bins.
What you can do to help us next time:
- Manage our waste through more recycling, composting and using recycled materials for disposable items.
- Create less waste by offering water and refillable water bottles, and by using other reusable items, rather than disposable.
- Encourage more cyclists and walkers to join us.
- Use less electricity.
