- 2008-05-14 - Preventing Sexual Assault Focus of Conference
(Lincoln, NE)- “Understanding and Responding to Sexual Assault in Nebraska”, is the title of a training conference scheduled for May 20-21, 2008, at the Midtown Holiday Inn, in Grand Island, Nebraska. The conference will present best practices and emerging issues dealing with sexual assault. Participants will hear from presenters in such areas as effective prosecution of sexual assault cases, sexual assault trauma, forensic evidence collection and creating a sexual assault response in your community.

LINCOLN - Governor Dave Heineman has declared May 18-24 as Emerald Ash Borer Awareness Week in Nebraska. The purpose of the proclamation is to increase awareness of the emerald ash borer, which, if found in Nebraska, could affect the state's 30 million ash trees.
"Nebraskans need to be vigilant to help prevent the introduction of the emerald ash borer into Nebraska," said Nebraska Department of Agriculture Director Greg Ibach. "Simple steps, such as not transporting firewood across state lines, can help prevent the spread of the beetle."

(Omaha, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman today recognized five Nebraska high school seniors for their academic achievement in earning top scores of 36 on the ACT college admissions exam.
The Governor was joined by Doug Christensen, Nebraska Commissioner of Education, in honoring seniors earning the highest possible composite scores on the exams. The students recognized today will graduate this spring and took the tests in the fall or winter of 2007.
